We’re Treading Different Paths.

By Fatima Mohammed

Yours might be sandy
and mine might be muddy.
Hers might be filled with cacti and thorns,
while his might be through a rainforest.

It’s because you can navigate deserts
and I know how to skillfully move through the mud.
She turns the thorns into tools,
while he knows the workings of rainforests.

Every path is different.
Comparing yours to others,
is looking in the mirror and giving yourself a slap.
Because we’re all individually equipped
for our individual paths.
And we can never survive through a journey
that isn’t ours.

What if you thought my muddy path to be easier.
But now you’re stuck in quicksand
because you were built for dry sand,
and not the wet kind.

You are equipped for your path.
You will never be given what you cannot handle.
So whatever you go through,
trust that somewhere inside you,
lies the capability to tread this path.
