AN ODE TO 2020: Co-habiting with COVID-19

By Darlington Osayande.

March 28, 2020 was the beginning of a new reality for me and for so many around the globe. I was getting geared up for MSc thesis defense but that never happened because a new “bad” sheriff was in town and unfortunately, I wasn’t prepared for this new quiet but lethargic “cop” that kept the world indoors for a long period of time.

With it’s ever growing units all over the planet, this new bad cop also known as COVID-19 with force number -19 kept outdoing the balance of life and death. the unravelling of this new reality, gave me a new insight into the society and it’s structure, Religion and it’s efficacy, the political class and their disinterest for human value and societal balance. I felt locked up in my thoughts, no one seemed to have answers, there was need for a soothing voice to tell me that it was all going to be over with detailed specifics, but alas I found the answer in family, friends, loving and sharing with your loved ones, and communication. We all fell back to the basis and basics of existence which is FAMILY.

It was indeed the case of a bad cop playing the game of chess with over 7 Billion persons, as the game went on, we saw and prepared for 4,5,6,7 moves ahead whilst learning life’s important lessons and taking a bite of kindness for every life that had been lost. There are no assurances of what tomorrow will bring but when it comes I’d be sure to cherish it and make the best out of it because I have been taught a great lesson by just co-habiting with COVID-19.
